How to calculate ROI

ROI measures the gain or loss on an investment relative to its original cost:

ROI = (Final value − Initial value) / Initial value × 100

The annualized return converts ROI into a per-year rate so you can fairly compare investments held for different lengths of time.

Example: buying shares for $5,000 and selling for $6,500 over 2 years is a 30% total ROI, or about 14% per year.
